The Rural Development Department of Himachal Pradesh has introduced a self geo-tagging facility under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), enabling beneficiaries to update the construction status of their houses independently using the ‘Awaas App’. Previously, this geotagging was conducted solely by departmental field officials before processing subsequent financial installments. With this new digital update, beneficiaries can upload images directly through the mobile app, accelerating both verification by Block-level officials and the timely release of funds.

To ensure seamless accessibility, the app offers four OTP-verified login options: via PMAY-G Registration ID, registered mobile number, Aadhaar-based authentication, or NREGA Job Card. Beneficiaries who have updated their contact details can visit their local Block Office to sync their new mobile number on the official portal prior to logging in. The department clarified that while self geo-tagging is completely optional and existing field verification systems will remain operational, all subordinate staff have been instructed to conduct widespread awareness campaigns regarding the standard operating procedures.
