SH1Granddads and grandmoms spent a thrilling and fun-filled evening as kiddies and teachers of Shemrock SMARTKIDS, Sanjauli celebrated Grandparents Day here today in Ritz Banquet Hall, Ridge, Shimla. Children were present in colorful dresses to welcome their grandparents and all dadas, dadis, nana, nanis were warmly welcomed with rose buds. School Director Sheetaljeet Kaur and Principal Guneet Kaur gave the welcome speeches and emphasized about the importance of celebrating this day and how grandparents touch the lives of their grandkids. Principal Guneet said, “With the changing scenarios, as both parents are working, grandparents play a vital role in upbringing of their grandkids as they are lovable, caring, mature and patient. They care selflessly and love endlessly, touching the lives of grandkids with their noble and sweet little gestures”.

SH3The small entertainment programme began with kids giving a few sweet dance performances on a couple of Bollywood songs and the ever so famous Himachali Naati. Tejasvi, Anhar, Sejal, Vivan, Poorvi, Anayna, Sonali, Zoyal, Yug, Arishya, Sprash, Himangi, Arnav, Manas, Araya, Adhiraj, Prishant, Annika, Sonali, Avni, Anhar were some of the participants who received a huge applause and won quite a few hearts with their innocence. The rest of the evening was purely dedicated to all the grandparents who were present in large numbers to enjoy this day.

The school management with the help of the support staff had lined up a few exciting games for all present, such as tambola, passing the pass, a ramp walk, as well as a couple’s dance. There was no hesitation on part of the grandparents as they all enthusiastically participated in each event. Unlike yesteryears when grandparents were hardly involved in children’s activities it was quite a change to see them mingling, while having a gala time.

SH2As a token of appreciation a few prizes were also distributed — Mrs. and Mr. Roy, Ananya’s grandparents received the award for the Best Dancing Couple; prize for Best Female Dancer went to Arishya’s grandmom Mrs. Dogra; while Vivan’s grandfather, Mr. Sharma, bagged the Best Male Dancer award. Next in line were the Best Granddad and Grandmom award which were presented to Mr. P.N. Gautam and Mrs. Sharma, respectively.

A touching moment was when few grandparents step forward to share their experiences and the changes they had witnessed in their grandkids. Tejasvani’s grandparents said, “We are very happy with the hard work put in by all the teachers and support staff to look after our kids. Children are like clay and the way we mould them at this stage, becomes impressionable for a lifetime. The little acts of love, expression and gestures go a long way in moulding them and we as grandparents relive through them”. Ananya’s grandparents were happy that their grandchildren were getting such good education which was not available for their children. They also commented that living and sharing with grandchildren made them feel young and energetic. Priyansh’s grandparents were also full praises for school and according to them their grandchild has become very active since she had joined the school. Yashwani’s grandparents attended this occasion for the first time and they were very overjoyed to be part of the celebrations.

SH4The highlight of the event was a framed poem presented to the Director and Principal by R L Chauhan, granddad of Joyal, — a dedication to all the teachers and staff members for making a difference in their children’s lives — titled “Pragati Path Par aage Badte Rahena, Shemrock Smartkids Tera Kya Kehna“.

Loveleen Kaur honoured all the teachers and the support staff with a token gift for such a wonderful job and finally the evening ended with a vote of thanks by the Director and Principal, Sheetaljeet Kaur and Gurneet Kaur.
