CM Sukhu on Friday announced the renaming of Dental College, Shimla, as Rajiv Gandhi Dental College, Shimla, while unveiling plans for a ₹300-crore Dental Health Research Centre in Hamirpur to strengthen advanced dental care and research in Himachal Pradesh.

The announcements were made during the 4th Annual Conference of the Himachal Pradesh State Chapter of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI).

The Chief Minister said the proposed research centre would boost modern dental treatment facilities, promote research, and generate new employment opportunities. He highlighted the vital role of oral and maxillofacial surgeons in restoring patients’ health, confidence, and quality of life.

Emphasising the government’s focus on upgrading healthcare infrastructure, Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh is witnessing major advancements, including the introduction of technologies such as robotic surgery and 3-Tesla MRI facilities in government hospitals.

He added that efforts are underway to equip medical colleges and district hospitals with advanced technology so that people can access quality and affordable healthcare closer to home.

The Chief Minister said the government is continuously engaging with doctors to strengthen healthcare services and will hold discussions with dental professionals to further improve dental education and patient care.

Praising doctors trained in Shimla, Sukhu said their achievements across India and abroad reflect the excellence of Himachal’s medical education and their contribution continues to bring pride to the state.
