Students from different schools turned up to exhibit their art skills during the Inter School Drawing Competition held in Chalet Day School, here today. Well known personality Albert Einstein once said, “I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world”. The students let their imagination run wild to bring out the best in them in order to win the competition. The competition was divided into two categories seniors, who were given the following topics to choose from, ‘Save Water’, ‘School Morning Assembly’ and ‘Child Labour – A Stigma on Society’ and for juniors the topics were ‘My Garden’, ‘People Who Help Us’ and ‘Earth – Our Mother’.

Chalet Day School Principal Bimla Rathore expressed her views about the drawing competition and said, “Drawing competition is a great way of promoting art and identify talent among children. I would have been happier if more schools would have turned up for the competition. Dabbling in art is also a great stress buster. In fact, psychologists encourage a child to draw so that they can create inferences from the child’s art and psychoanalyse them. Drawing and painting can also be an ideal way for children to vent their pent-up feelings. I truly believe in promoting activities like these as it encourages students to think out of the box”.

Total of five schools participated in the competition, Auckland House School, whose participants were Ayushi Thakur and Cana. K. Yepthomi in junior category and Shreya Sood and Cheshtha Khurana in the senior category. Farryad Mander and Gurpirat Singh came from Dagshai Public School. Harul Vinay and Shagufta Hussain represented the host school, Chalet Day, Astha Kalia from Deepak Kumar from Himalayan International School and Chayakorn Chianglo and Tripatt Srikuma from Shimla Public School.

The judges for the competition were Roop Lata from Shimla Public School and Mansi Singh from St Mary School, Chakkar.

Shreya from Auckland House School chose ‘Save Water’ as her topics and through that sent across a social message that, “In spite of knowing the fact that we cannot survive without water even for a single day, people do not take the subject of saving water seriously. If human beings keep on wasting water, ignoring the need to save it, the future generations will not be left with even a single drop”. Another student from Shimla Public School, Chayakorn said, “I have drawn on the concept ‘My Dream Garden’, it has a fountain, a bridge, stunning flowers and everything that a person would need to make it a soothing and serene place. The basic inspiration of drawing this kind of garden comes from one of my favourite movies, Memoirs of Geisha”.

Proud Winners of the Competition were:

Senior category:  1st Chayakorn Chianglo; 2nd Gurpirat Singh; 3rd Faryad Mander and Consolation prize was given to Cana. K. Yepthomi.

Junior category:  1st Shreya Sood; 2nd Cheshta Khurana; 3ed Deepak Kumar
