In India, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on 5th of September every year as it is dedicated to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a zealous advocate of education and one of the greatest scholars and teachers of all times, apart from being the First Vice President and the Second President of India. Teacher’s Day is a tribute to the hard work and devotion of the teachers to educate a child.

“Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students”, this famous quote by Solomon Ortiz completely describes the spirit, love and respect that the students of various schools in Shimla expressed for their teachers in the form of remarkable performances staged by them here today. Here is a glimpse of some of the activities held in various schools.

Auckland House Boys School, Lakkar Bazar

Dressed in bright colourful clothes, Auckland boys were busy running around the classrooms decorating them with streamers and balloons, the excitement and thrill of hiding behind doors to surprise their teachers was quite evident. Cards and flowers were sheepishly held behind back with a few delicious cakes to be cut by the teachers. The boys too showed their love and gratitude towards their teachers by presenting a small variety entertainment programme. An introduction was given by a boy from the senior section which was followed by a couple of sweet songs sung by the boys and a vibrant performance by the Band. The poem recited by Class II boys titled “teachers get A+” was very touching and a proof of their love for their teachers.

The morning ended with lots of excitement and a fun day spent with teachers, of course with books !!!

Chalpslee School, Lakkar Bazar

A variety entertainment programme was also presented at Chapslee School, however, rain played a spoilsport as the performances had to be done inside the classrooms, but still the spirit of celebration was high. A sweet introduction was given by a senior student who said, “The teachers give us an opportunity to show them the importance of their presence in every students life. We are very lucky to be under the guidance of such capable teachers who inspire and lead us in every sphere of our lives”. Then followed a series of dance performances from Classes 2 onwards up to Class 8, each doing their best to bring a smile to their teachers faces.

Chocolates, cards, flowers and cakes was lovingly showered on teachers to show their appreciation and gratitude towards their teachers.

Auckland House Girls School, Lakkar Bazaar

Under the able-guidance of the School Captain, Imran Kaur, students of Auckland House warmly greeted all the teachers and presented a thrilling entertaining programme with a sweet poem dedicated to all the teachers:

A substitute for working mom,
She comforts, pampers, soothes and calms,
With all the love she has to share,
She’s great to have when mom’s not there,
She loves to rock a funny child,
Corrects the one who gets too wild,
She hears her share of tearfuly pleas,
And comforts those with skinned up knees,
With little children she plays a peek,
for bigger ones its hide n seek,
She is an expert at each games,
But somehow she looses just the same.
Although she is paid, its plain to see,
But she serves us with love that is free.

Students from Kindergarten up to Class 12 presented some entertaining performances, which were a mix of songs and vibrant dances and in between acts was an interactive session with teachers, where teachers became students and students were the quiz master. And the reward was chocolates for those who gave the right answers. The festivities ended with lunch which was lovingly organized and served for their teachers.
