The junior wing comprising of classes Nursery to Class Five of Convent of Jesus and Mary School, Shimla, showcased their athletic and sporty skills. The chief guest, Director Himuda Surinder Vashist was warmly greeted by the School Principal Shyma Jose and Sister Alma Abraham and the bouquet was present by Naamya Vashist. The Guard of Honour was then taken by the chief guest as the Junior Section Sports Captain, Mitali Verma led the March Past after which the little kids took the pavilion with various races.
The campus soon resounded with loud cheers and claps as each house was vying for their house members to win. The first race began with the Nursery section as they showed their agility and sportsman spirits while completing the 100 metres race. They were all very happy as they touched the finished line. Soon classes Kindergarten to Class Five took to the ground as they completed their races amidst loud clapping and roar from all around.
A healthy body and a healthy mind was the message sent across by the students as they performed few Yoga exercises. The dexterity and suppleness was clearly showcased through their sprightly moves. Students of Classes Third to Fifth took over the field as they ran the 200 meters races. The PT Display by Fourth Class was equally impressive as the synchronization was near perfect.
Then Class Relays began for Nursery and the Kindergarten section which was entertaining as well as cute at the same time. It was a pleasure to see the kids run as they participated in relays namely, Passing the Clay, Passing the Ball, Flag Race, Passing through the Ring, Hurdles, and cutest of all was the Farmers Race in which the kids were suppose to run wearing a hat while carrying a stick. The minor bumps and falls did not deter their spirit or the fervor to complete the race.
Students of Class Five then took the field as they presented an energetic display with Dumbbells. After which a round of relay races continued by the students of classes One to Third. In this section there was the Hopping Relay, Frog Race, Ball on the Bottle, Bursting the Balloon, Grandfather’s Shoes, Balancing the Book and the Spoon and Lemon Race. The grand finale of course was a show of strength among various Houses through a Tug of War. Even though Green House won the war but it was Blue House that ultimately lifted the Juniors Shield.
Chief Guest Surinder Vashist congratulated all the students and staff on holding such a wonderful event in a very disciplined manner. Feeling nostalgic he said, “I felt emotional about being present here today. Sports activities are a part of our educational curriculum, but it is more about mental fitness rather than physical fitness. Sports also help nurture team spirit and strengthen inherent values “. He further appreciated the hard work put in by the teachers for presenting such a wonderful show.
