The Annual Junior School Art Competition took place in Chalet Day School, Shimla in the school hall today. The children produced some very interesting and impressive work. The students were divided in two groups — Group 1 included classes V and VI and Group 2  has classes II, III and IV. The topic given to Group 1 was Environment. The younger group was not given any particular topic, as it was left to their imagination and thus they drew some beautiful drawings.

The younger lot was seen drawing the Indian Flag, attractive mountain landscapes, a busy city street, village locations and much more. Each and every one of them was trying to fill in the best combination of colours in order to win the prize.

The event was organised by Principal Bimla Rathore and the Art Department to encourage children and young people to pursue and develop their creative interests and talent. The teachers of the art department said, “This competition gives the students an opportunity to nurture their talent and give wings to their imagination. The students who want to follow their passion for art get an encouragement through these activities”.

Prachi of Class VI said with excitement, “Theme of my drawing is to Save and Plant More Trees. I have reflected on the pitiable condition of forests being chopped down for building industries”. Another student of the same class, Priyanka drew on the issue of air and water pollution caused by the industries.

The students came up with brilliant ideas to portray the present threat to environment. Nishant, one of the students whose drawing caught our attention said, “I am trying to depict through my drawing that pollution is a constant threat to mankind”. He personified pollution as a monster holding Earth in its clutches.

The awards of the competition were announced by the Principal on Monday, 12th May, 2014, during the morning assembly.
