1 Lakh Medicinal Karu Plants Planted in Nigani and Taranda

In the tribal district of Kinnaur, 1 lakh Karu plants have been planted in Nigani and Taranda. With the commencement of the Van Mahotsav in the state, the JICA Forestry Project has initiated a new venture towards medicinal farming. Under this initiative, 50,000 Karu plants were planted in Chot Kanda with the support of the Village Forest Development Society Nigani, and the Herbal Group Nigani, under the Nichar Forest Division.

Similarly, 50,000 Karu plants were planted in Taranda with the assistance of the Village Forest Development Society Taranda and the Taranda Maa Herbal Group. The JICA Forestry Project is playing a significant role in the state’s important Van Samridhi-Jan Samridhi scheme. Retired Himachal Pradesh Forest Service Officer CM Sharma, Forest Range Officer Nichar Mausam Dharaik, Deputy Forest Range Officer Nichar Naresh Kumar, Sukh Ram, Forest Guard Vikas, Mela Ram, JICA Forestry Project Subject Matter Specialist Kinnaur Radhika Negi, Field Technical Unit Coordinator Priyanka Negi along with members of the Herbal Group and Village Forest Development Society contributed to the planting of Kadu plants.

It is noteworthy that a one-day training workshop on medicinal farming was organized in Nigal Sari under the Nichar Forest Division on July 19. In this workshop, JICA Forestry Project Biodiversity Expert Dr. SK Kapta raised awareness among people about the cultivation of valuable medicinal herbs. Consequently, more medicinal plants will be planted in the coming days.
