Shimla has always been on top when it comes to quality education. Being the summer capital during the British Raj in India, there are many schools which are imparting quality education since pre-Independence era. One such prestigious school is St. Thomas’ School, Shimla, which was established way back in 1912. Initially run as a parish primary school, in 1924 it was established as a full-fledged high school by association with the Punjab Education Board.
St. Thomas’ School, is celebrating its centenary as an established institution this year. The grand centenary celebration was organized on May 24 in the school premises. Various cultural activities were held to commemorate the occasion.
On May 25, a prayer meeting was held at Christ Church in Shimla. The event was attended by the Chairman of St. Thomas’ School and the head of the Diocese of Amritsar (C.N.I.) and Bishop, Most Reverend Dr. Pradeep Kumar Samantaroy, the principal of the school Vidhupriya Chakravarty, principals of other schools from the Diocese, other dignitaries associated with the Diocese, all teachers, other staff members, and students of the school. Hymns, prayers, and readings were presented during the prayer meeting at the Christ Church.
The highlights of today’s celebrations was the release of a Postal Special Cover by the School management as well as the Release of the Centenary Song sung by the School Choir tilted ‘By Love Serve One Another’. The song has been composed by an alumni of 93 batch, Pooja Priyamvada who was also the head girl during the period. The music is composed by Nikhil, a young budding artist from Himachal.
Congratulating the students, teachers and other stake holders, Principal Vidhupriya Chakravarty articulated, “It’s always been an endeavor of our school to impart quality education, along with the overall personality development of the students. The long journey of the school is the testimony of the same. As we celebrate the centenary year of our school’s existence, the commitment of our institution for imparting good values along with education has increased many folds.”
“In future also, we are confident, that our students will bring laurels for the school and escalate its reputation/fame,” she added further. Various other events are also planned to commemorate the celebrations which will showcase the undying spirit of the students and participation from the teachers as well as the other staff of the school.
