The 133 Eco Task Force, established by the Government of Himachal Pradesh, is making a remarkable impact in the realm of environmental protection while also promoting humanitarian values. Over the past 19 years, the task force has contributed significantly in areas such as afforestation, disaster management, and ecological restoration.

According to Col. Deepak Kumar, Commanding Officer of the 133 Eco Task Force, the unit operates on a unique model where ex-servicemen are re-engaged and organized into a small Army Corps Group to undertake environmental responsibilities. Since its inception, the force has planted over 6.076 million saplings across various regions of Himachal Pradesh, with plantation efforts spanning 5,675 hectares of land.

The task force has also established 11 nurseries capable of producing 430,000 plants and rejuvenated three Amrit Sarovars along with several local ponds to aid in water conservation. In addition, 11 check dams have been constructed using locally available materials to further support groundwater recharge and sustainable resource management.

In the last five years, the Eco Task Force has effectively tackled 43 forest fire incidents, implementing fire prevention measures by creating fire lines in 42 project areas. Their work has been crucial in mitigating forest damage and preserving biodiversity.

Special plantation drives are regularly organized by the force during events like Van Mahotsav, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, Meri Maati Mera Desh, Swachhata Hi Seva, and International Yoga Day, among others. These efforts are complemented by continuous activities in soil conservation, protection of flora and fauna, and water resource management.

Beyond ecological work, the 133 Eco Task Force plays a vital humanitarian role by providing shelter, food, and transportation during natural disasters, reflecting its broader mission of serving both nature and humanity.
