9th International Film Festival Of Shimla : A Global Cinematic Celebration In The Heart Of Himachal Pradesh

The much-anticipated 9th edition of the International Film Festival of Shimla is set to captivate audiences from September 22 to 24, 2023 in Gaiety Theatre Shimla and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh will inaugurate the three days Film Festival. This year 20 countries and 22 states are participating in this prestigious cinematic event promises to celebrate the art of storytelling through the lens of diverse cultures and perspectives.

In International category filmmakers from United states of America, Belgium, Iran, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Turkey, Nepal, Egypt, Bangladesh, Italy, Poland, Argentina, Sweden, Afghanistan, Australia, France and Dubai are participating. While twenty-one states are participating from India viz., Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Manipur, Assam, Delhi, Punjab, West Bengal, Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh.

The International Film Festival of Shimla has consistently upheld its reputation as a platform for nurturing creativity, fostering artistic dialogue, and promoting cross-cultural understanding through the magic of motion pictures. “We are thrilled to announce the 9th edition of our International Film Festival, an event that brings together filmmakers, artists, and cinephiles to celebrate the universal language of cinema,” said Mr Pushp Raj Thakur, Festival Director. This year we have received a record no. of entries from around the world. Our esteemed jury who are established filmmaker has officially selected 107 films.

They have shortlisted 38 films in international category, 64 films in National category and five films in state category. Out of these films 68 films will be screened in Gaiety theatre during the three days film festival. The awards will be given in each category to best film in feature, short, animation and documentary film. “This year’s lineup is a testament to the power of storytelling, offering a diverse array of films that reflect the rich tapestry of human experiences from around the globe.
