In a landmark move to accelerate hydroelectric power development in Arunachal Pradesh, SJVN Limited has released a significant ₹269.97 crore as land compensation for the ambitious 3097 MW Etalin Hydro Electric Project, located in the pristine Dibang Valley.

This major announcement was made during a high-level review meeting held in Tawang on April 10, 2025, chaired by Hon’ble Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The land compensation amount was officially deposited in the joint account of the Deputy Commissioner and DLRSO, Dibang Valley, on March 26, 2025, as confirmed by Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman & Managing Director (Additional Charge) of SJVN.

🌿 Transforming Arunachal Into a Green Energy Powerhouse

The Etalin Hydro Electric Project, one of India’s largest upcoming hydro projects, is a vital part of the ₹60,000 crore clean energy investment plan in Arunachal Pradesh. The project includes the construction of two major dams – one on the Dri River and another on the Talo (Tangon) River, alongside an underground powerhouse complex.

Scheduled for commissioning by December 2033, the project is set to transform the region’s power landscape while creating employment, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring inclusive growth.

💬 State & Central Collaboration for Sustainable Development

In the presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, and other top officials, Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded the cooperation between SJVN and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, assuring full state support in expediting all necessary clearances.

Raj Kumar Chaudhary reiterated SJVN’s commitment:

“This compensation marks a crucial milestone in balancing local community rights with national infrastructure growth. We’re committed to inclusive and sustainable development in Arunachal Pradesh.”

⚡ India’s Renewable Energy Future Starts in the Northeast

With the signing of the MoA on August 12, 2023, SJVN took charge of not just the Etalin project, but four other hydro projects in Arunachal Pradesh, bringing the total installed capacity to 5097 MW.

This strategic initiative aligns with India’s renewable energy goals, supporting both the National Hydroelectric Policy and the net-zero emission target by 2070.
