Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of various development schemes implemented by the Urban Development Department across Himachal Pradesh. The focus was on ensuring the timely execution of centrally and state‑sponsored schemes, particularly those with a 90:10 funding ratio, to guarantee that eligible beneficiaries receive intended benefits within stipulated timeframes.

‘Swachh Shehar, Samridh Shehar’ Campaign: A Step Towards Sustainable Urban Development
Launched on February 5, 2025, the ‘Swachh Shehar, Samridh Shehar’ campaign aims to enhance cleanliness and promote sustainable development in urban areas through community participation. Under this initiative, towns like Sundernagar, Solan, Dharamshala, Jubbal, Jogindernagar, Palampur, and Sujanpur have been recognized among the top five urban bodies in the state for adopting effective cleanliness measures.
Citizen Service Portal: Bringing Essential Services to the Ward Level
The Citizen Service Portal offers nine essential services to residents at the ward level. These services include trade licenses, property tax management, grievance redressal, and booking of community spaces. The Minister announced that by June 15, 2025, all these services would be fully operational online, streamlining processes and enhancing accessibility for citizens.
Strengthening Urban Infrastructure and Revenue Mechanisms
Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar emphasized the need to strengthen the Estate Branch within 15 days, assigning clear designations and responsibilities for asset monetization and management of underperforming assets. Additionally, the department plans to introduce an incentive‑based scheme to recover pending property tax dues and is considering adopting the Ranchi Model to optimize property tax billing and connections.
Advancements in GIS Mapping and Property Surveys
The meeting also reviewed progress in GIS mapping and property surveys, crucial for accurate urban planning and development. These technological advancements are expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of urban management across the state.
Minister Vikramaditya Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to developing both rural and urban areas in Himachal Pradesh, ensuring that development initiatives are inclusive and beneficial to all sections of society.
