The Himachal Pradesh government has initiated the formal process to designate Pangi Valley as a dedicated natural farming Sub-Division, in line with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s announcement on Himachal Day. Aimed at promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices and improving farmers’ livelihoods, this step includes offering a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹60 per kg for barley produced in the region.

A spokesperson from the Agriculture Department confirmed that a special committee, formed on the Chief Minister’s directions, recently visited the panchayats of Shaur, Purthi, and Rai. The committee engaged with local farmers and panchayat leaders, sharing information on natural farming techniques, their environmental benefits, and long-term economic advantages.

Further consultations were held during a key meeting in Killar, chaired by the Resident Commissioner and attended by Block Development Committee (BDC) members and representatives from all 19 panchayats in Pangi. Discussions centered around the phased adoption of natural farming, community involvement, and region-specific implementation strategies.

Experts from Shimla also contributed technical insights through presentations, emphasizing how natural farming can transform Pangi into a model eco-agriculture hub. The Resident Commissioner urged local representatives to champion the initiative and mobilize community participation.

The government believes this initiative will not only boost the local economy but also position Pangi Valley as a leading example of sustainable and natural agriculture in the state.
