An Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting was held in New Delhi to review preparations for the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), reflecting the government’s Whole-of-Government approach.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav emphasized the movement’s role in promoting holistic health and shared that over 250 events have already been held across India and abroad, with 76 daily countdown events since March 13.

The flagship initiative Yoga Sangam will see over 1 lakh yoga sessions nationwide on 21st June, led by PM Modi from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The national event is expected to host over 5 lakh participants.

The Ministry of Ayush announced 10 sectoral Signature Events aligned with the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, resonating with the WHO’s global health focus.

Officials called for joint efforts from ministries, Ayush institutions, and Yoga Gurus to ensure widespread, inclusive participation.

IDY, initiated in 2015 at the UN by India, has grown into one of the largest global wellness movements, with 24 crore participants in India alone last year. Events will also be hosted at 150 iconic tourist sites by the Ministries of Tourism and Culture.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to make IDY 2025 a landmark global celebration of wellness.
