The Himachal Pradesh government is making significant strides in promoting gender equality and child welfare through a series of impactful schemes aimed at health, education, financial support, and social empowerment. With sustained efforts, over 26,000 beneficiaries have received financial aid totaling nearly ₹90 crore, reflecting the state’s commitment to building a more equitable society.
One of the most encouraging indicators of progress is the rise in the sex ratio from 947 in 2023 to 964 in 2024. This shift reflects growing awareness and respect for the girl child, bolstered by government schemes that promote her health, safety, and education.
Under the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana, ₹1,989.31 lakh was provided to support 3,956 girls from economically weaker families at the time of their marriage. In addition, the Mukhyamantri Shagun Yojana benefited 12,192 girls, with assistance totaling ₹3,779.52 lakh.
The Widow Remarriage Scheme has supported 239 women with ₹291.15 lakh, empowering them to rebuild their lives with dignity.
The Mukhyamantri Sukh Aashray Yojana disbursed ₹25.98 crore to improve the living conditions of orphaned children. For educational support, 9,859 children received ₹302.18 lakh under the Mukhyamantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana, enabling secure and nurturing learning environments.
A significant step toward women’s financial independence came with the passing of the . This historic legislation addresses property right inequalities and affirms the government’s focus on social justice and gender equality.
Through the Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojana, the government will deposit ₹25,000 in an insurance plan for each of the first two daughters born in BPL families. Parents also receive a life insurance cover of ₹2 lakh each. Girls will receive the accumulated amount at age 18 or before turning 27.
To encourage economic independence among women, the government has planned to construct 13 Working Women Hostels in cities like Solan, Baddi, Palampur, Gagret, and within the Medical Device Park in Solan. With a budget of ₹132 crore for 2025–26, these hostels will offer safe and affordable accommodation for employed women.
