In a firm stand against drug abuse, CM Sukhu announced the state government’s upcoming large-scale anti-drug campaign during the felicitation ceremony of the winners of the 12th HP Police Half Marathon held in Shimla. The marathon, organized by the Himachal Pradesh Police, witnessed enthusiastic participation from men, women, and senior citizens, including a special category for participants aged 75 and above.
Addressing the event, the Chief Minister voiced concern over the growing involvement of government employees—including police personnel—in drug-related offenses. He revealed that 80 such employees are already facing legal action, and stricter reforms, including amendments to the Police Manual, are under consideration to ensure greater accountability.
The CM outlined the government’s comprehensive strategy to combat drug abuse, stating that mapping at the panchayat ward level is underway to enable targeted interventions. He also announced the formation of a Special Task Force and the recruitment of 500 new police personnel to bolster enforcement efforts.
“Youth are the future of the nation, and shielding them from drugs is our collective responsibility,” said CM Sukhu, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking.
The state government, he noted, is adopting a dual approach—strong enforcement alongside a compassionate strategy for victims. He emphasized that the PIT-NDPS Act, enforced under the current administration, has already led to 40 detention orders, with 36 issued in 2025 alone. Properties of seven drug peddlers have been demolished as part of the crackdown.
In a progressive move, Sukhu highlighted the newly enacted HP Anti-Drugs Act, which differentiates between offenders and victims, aiming for rehabilitation and reintegration of drug users into society.
Urging parents to engage openly with their children about the dangers of drugs, CM Sukhu called for a united societal effort to safeguard future generations. He also released a special anti-drug awareness song by ‘Harmony of the Pines’ as part of the campaign.
The event was attended by MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Principal Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan, Additional Chief Secretary KK Pant, DGP Ashok Tiwari, senior police officials, and other dignitaries.
