CM Sukhu visited various disaster-affected areas in the Seraj and Nachan assembly constituencies during his three-day tour of Mandi district. He personally assessed the damage caused by heavy rainfall and cloudbursts.
Speaking to media persons in Sundernagar today, the Chief Minister stated that the government has been working swiftly to restore essential services in the affected regions. He informed that the Deputy CM and Public Works Minister had already visited these areas to assess the extent of the damage.
He said that nearly all major roads in the disaster-hit regions have been reopened, and work to restore internal connectivity roads is ongoing at a war footing. From the first day of the disaster, around 50 JCB machines were deployed to clear blocked roads.
The Chief Minister announced that the road from Chailchowk to Baga Syad, Thunag, Janjehli, and Chhatri will be brought under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for comprehensive development. Roads and bridges from Thunag to Janjehli have suffered severe damage, and temporary restoration is underway. The government will ensure there is no shortage of funds for their full rehabilitation.
He added that the state government has already released ₹7 crore for relief and restoration work to accelerate the efforts. The calamity has resulted in significant damage to livestock, crops, and vegetables. Affected families will receive compensation for livestock loss and clothing.
Sukhu also acknowledged that in several places, people’s private land is no longer habitable due to the disaster. He stated that the state government would request the central government to grant forest land for resettling the affected families safely. He urged the state’s BJP MPs to support this proposal and help secure necessary clearances from the Centre.
The Chief Minister informed that Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani will remain in the affected areas over the next two days to oversee relief operations. He also announced that the government will provide rental assistance to displaced families — ₹5,000 per month in rural areas and ₹10,000 per month in urban areas.
He mentioned that the Dharampur region of Mandi district has also suffered severe damage due to heavy rainfall, and local MLA Chandrashekhar is actively supporting relief and rescue efforts around the clock.
