In a major administrative breakthrough, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL), with strong backing from the State Government, has successfully resolved long-pending pension-related issues affecting thousands of its retired employees.

Until early 2024, HPSEBL was facing significant delays in clearing medical reimbursements, gratuity, leave encashment, and particularly the revision of pensions for nearly 16,200 pensioners—a process left unaddressed despite the adoption of the 6th Pay Commission by the State Government.

Concerned by the slow progress, CM Sukhu intervened directly, directing HPSEBL to expedite resolution in a time-bound manner. At that point, only 1,800 cases had been revised in nine months, projecting a delay of several more years if corrective action wasn’t taken.

Responding promptly, HPSEBL constituted a dedicated team of 12 retired officers and 14 Data Entry Operators to fast-track the process. Thanks to this focused initiative, the Board successfully revised all 16,200 pending pension cases within four months (July to October 2024).

This unprecedented effort enabled the timely release of pension arrears, delivering long-overdue financial relief to thousands of pensioners. Additionally, the Finance Wing was instructed to clear all medical reimbursement claims promptly, ensuring zero pendency going forward.

In total, HPSEBL disbursed a record ₹370 crore in terminal benefits and reimbursements in 2024, reflecting not only improved administrative efficiency but also the State Government’s strong commitment to employee welfare and dignity.

A spokesperson emphasized that despite attempts by some quarters to spread misinformation, HPSEBL remains dedicated to transparency and accountability, and will continue working closely with the Government to uphold the rights of its retired employees.
