Auckland House School Girls, in association with SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth), hosted a mesmerizing Kathak recital by the legendary Jaipur Gharana exponent Pandit Rajendra Gangani.
The performance featured evocative pieces dedicated to Lord Ganesh and Lord Ram, complex rhythmic patterns, and a captivating jugalbandi between tabla and footwork, exemplifying the essence of Kathak’s storytelling and rhythmic precision.
A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Pandit Gangani was accompanied by a distinguished ensemble: Kishore Kumar on tabla, Vinod Gangani on vocals, and Ravi Sharma on sarangi.
Interacting with students, Pandit Gangani emphasized Kathak as more than a dance form — describing it as a spiritual practice and living cultural heritage. He encouraged the young audience to take pride in and preserve India’s rich classical traditions.
Principal Smaraki Samanthroy expressed heartfelt gratitude to SPIC MACAY for enriching students through such cultural initiatives and thanked the media for their unwavering support in promoting the classical arts.
