In a strong message advocating environmental preservation, Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla led a plantation drive today at Sipur in the Mashobra block of Shimla district. The initiative was organized by the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Forest Department.

As part of the event, Governor Shukla planted a deodar sapling, emphasizing that plantation efforts go beyond greenery—they are a critical step towards securing the planet’s future. “Planting trees is not just an environmental act; it is a life-saving responsibility that helps conserve water, stabilize soil, and purify the air,” he said.

Highlighting the growing ecological challenges faced by the State, the Governor pointed to the increasing frequency of natural disasters such as landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts. He warned that deforestation, pollution, and unchecked development are pushing nature towards imbalance, and urgent action is needed to reverse the trend.

Around 120 saplings were planted during the drive, with active participation from students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mashobra, guided by Principal Anita Gupta. Forest officials, Red Cross members, and local residents also joined the initiative.

The event commenced with the Governor offering prayers at the Hanuman Temple in Sipur. He was formally welcomed by Secretary to Governor C.P. Verma and Chief Conservator of Forests K. Thirumal, who presented him with a traditional Himachali shawl and cap.

Among other dignitaries present were Additional Deputy Commissioner Priyanshu, Additional Superintendent of Police Ratan Negi, district officials, and volunteers from the Red Cross Society.

The drive served as a reminder of the role each citizen plays in preserving the natural beauty and ecological stability of the “Devbhoomi” – Himachal Pradesh.
