The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, marked Teachers’ Day with a special commemorative lecture by Professor S. Ranganath, Fellow of the Institute. The event, held in the Seminar Room of Rashtrapati Nivas, was chaired by IIAS Director, Professor Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, and attended by National Fellows, Tagore Fellows, IUC Associates, Scholars in Residence, Section Heads, and Institute staff.
Professor Ranganath’s lecture paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, emphasizing that his philosophy of education extended beyond conventional teaching, rooted deeply in truth, service, and universal human values. He described teachers as moral guides and torchbearers of knowledge, urging them to uphold a balance between tradition and modernity in today’s fast-changing world.
In his presidential address, Professor Chaturvedi highlighted the significance of celebrating Teachers’ Day at IIAS—an institution shaped by Dr. Radhakrishnan’s founding vision. He noted that the Institute continues to carry forward its scholarly tradition in service of society, inspired by its intellectual heritage and commitment to higher learning.
The event concluded with heartfelt acknowledgments to teachers whose tireless dedication continues to inspire and transform lives.
