In a landmark moment for Indian sports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the IndianOil New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships (WPAC), celebrating it as a testament to India’s growing stature as an inclusive and global sporting hub. Held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the event welcomed over 2,200 athletes from 104 countries, with India fielding its largest-ever contingent of 74 para-athletes. PM Modi praised the para athletes for “breaking barriers and setting new benchmarks,” and emphasized how sport unites people beyond all differences. Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya officially declared WPAC 2025 open, highlighting the event as a symbol of pride and progress, and reaffirmed India’s ambitions to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and the Olympics in 2036. The newly renovated stadium features a world-class Mondo track and gym facilities, aimed at supporting athletes’ excellence. With 186 gold medals on the line, the championship promises emotional highs, world records, and moments of inspiration. As India joins the ranks of Qatar, UAE, and Japan in hosting WPAC, the event not only showcases elite athleticism but also promotes a deeper legacy of accessibility, equal opportunity, and national pride in para-sports.
