The Himachal Pradesh Directorate of School Education has initiated strict disciplinary action following an incident at Government Senior Secondary School, Rohnat (District Sirmaur), where a cheque bearing No. 263531 dated 25.09.2025 was issued with grossly incorrect wording in the amount column, reading “Saven Thursday Six harendra sixtey.” The error, which quickly went viral on social media and caught national media attention, has caused significant embarrassment to the Education Department and harmed its public image.

Upon learning of the incident, the Directorate promptly summoned both the Principal of the school and Drawing Teacher Atter Singh—who was involved in preparing the cheque—for a personal hearing with the Director of School Education on October 4. During the hearing  Atter Singh admitted to making the error due to lack of due diligence. However, this explanation was deemed unacceptable by Director Ashish Kohli.

In response, the Directorate directed the Deputy Director of School Education (Elementary), Sirmaur, to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Atter Singh under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1965. Consequently, Atter Singh has been suspended. The role of the school Principal, who served as the supervising officer and Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO), is also under scrutiny, and action is being considered.

The Directorate emphasized that all DDOs and Heads of Institutions must uphold the highest standards of accuracy and administrative propriety in official matters, especially financial documentation. Any lapse that undermines the credibility of the Education Department will attract strict disciplinary measures.

Director Ashish Kohli reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to administrative discipline, financial accountability, and institutional integrity, stating that such incidents will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
