A one-day special road safety awareness campaign was organized in Kufri on Sunday under the leadership of Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap and Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that following traffic rules is extremely important, especially as the inflow of tourists to Shimla continues to rise. During winters, visitors from across the country and abroad travel to the region, making it essential for the administration to ensure tourists are aware of traffic guidelines. Appealing to tourists, he urged them to follow safety measures such as wearing seat belts, maintaining prescribed speed limits, carrying all valid vehicle documents, avoiding drunk driving, and refraining from leaning out of sunroofs. He added that tourists facing any difficulty can contact the district administration for assistance.

He further said that during road accidents, the general public should play a leading role in rescue efforts, as such acts of humanity inspire society. He urged people to avoid making videos or taking photos during accidents and instead focus on helping the injured.

Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi stated that interceptor vehicles were deployed during the campaign. These vehicles, procured under the Himachal Pradesh State Road Transformation Project with the support of the World Bank, are equipped with advanced features such as developer radar, alco-sensors, black glass detection systems, flasher detectors, GPS, and CCTV cameras. These features enable night patrolling and evidence collection, significantly enhancing police efficiency. The police are now using these interceptor vehicles for night patrolling and rapid response operations.
