SJVN has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Rajasthan, marking a major milestone in the company’s contribution to the nation’s renewable energy capacity.

Chairman & Managing Director, Bhupender Gupta, congratulated the entire SJVN team on this achievement, stating that the project reflects the company’s technical expertise, strong coordination, and dedication of employees, contractors, and stakeholders.

Implemented through SJVN’s wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the project is located in Bikaner district—one of India’s highest solar-yield regions. The project is expected to generate 2,454.55 million units of electricity in its first year and about 56,838 million units over 25 years. Power generated will be supplied to Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand at a tariff of ₹2.57 per unit, ensuring affordable and clean energy.

Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma highlighted that the project has been developed on 5,000 acres of purchased land near Village Banderwala and significantly supports the Government of India’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Director (Finance) Sipan Kumar Garg informed that the project has been developed at a cost of ₹5,492 crore under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode, utilizing indigenous solar cells and modules, thereby promoting the Make in India initiative. The project is also expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 27.85 lakh tonnes.

The foundation stone of the project was laid by the Hon’ble President of India,  Droupadi Murmu, on 3 January 2023 in Jaipur. The project has been developed under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II, Tranche-III of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), further boosting India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem and clean energy transition.
