Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday announced that the state government is set to bring major reforms in the education policy, with a special focus on strengthening foundational learning in government schools. He said that special instructors for English and Mathematics will soon be recruited for schools being brought under the CBSE curriculum, and the recruitment process will begin shortly.
The Chief Minister was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating Gugga Dham and a park, constructed at a cost of around ₹60 lakh, in his ancestral village Bhawran of Amlehar Gram Panchayat during his one-day visit to the Nadaun Assembly constituency of Hamirpur district.
CM Sukhu informed that Amlehar School has been granted CBSE status, while construction work on the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School is progressing rapidly and classes will commence from next year. He added that multiple subjects will be introduced in four selected schools, including Amlehar, enabling students to choose subjects according to their interests and aptitude.
Encouraging farmers to adopt natural farming, the Chief Minister said the state government is offering premium prices for naturally grown crops. He stated that turmeric produced through natural farming is being procured at ₹90 per kg, and farmers can earn up to ₹3 lakh by cultivating turmeric on five kanals of land.
Highlighting renewable energy initiatives, CM Sukhu said the government is providing subsidies for setting up solar plants on barren land. Youth can earn a net annual income of up to ₹3 lakh by installing a solar plant on four kanals of land, he added.
The Chief Minister further informed that around ₹100 crore is being spent on drinking water schemes in the Nadaun constituency. He said that to ensure safe and pure drinking water, UV technology and ozonation processes are being used instead of bleaching powder.
Earlier in the day, CM Sukhu inaugurated Shri Vaikunth Dham and a park built at a cost of about ₹25 lakh in Pakhrol village of Gram Panchayat Gauna and listened to public grievances. He also inaugurated the statue and memorial of freedom fighter Inderpal at Inderpal Chowk in Nadaun town, recently renovated and beautified by the Municipal Council.
On the occasion, Panchayat Pradhan Sonia Thakur welcomed the Chief Minister and briefed him on ongoing development works. Among those present were MLA Sujanpur Captain Ranjit Singh, former MLA Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Ram Chandra Pathania, Dr. Mohan Lal, Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh, SP Balbir Singh, Ajay Sharma, Captain Prithi Chand, Shammi Soni, panchayat representatives and other dignitaries.
