Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, on Friday said that the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB–G RAM G) Act, 2025 is fully aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 and marks a transformative step towards strengthening Rural Bharat. Interacting with the media in New Delhi, the Minister underlined that the Act represents a decisive reform in India’s rural employment and development framework, with Panchayats and Gram Sabhas playing a central role in future planning and implementation.

Dr. Majumdar highlighted that the legislation enhances the statutory wage employment guarantee to 125 days per financial year for rural households. Anchored in the principles of empowerment, inclusive growth, convergence of development initiatives and saturation-based delivery, the Act seeks to transform rural employment from a standalone welfare measure into an integrated instrument of sustainable development. He noted that Parliament’s passage of the Act reflects a strong commitment to strengthening income security, modernising governance and accountability mechanisms, and linking wage employment with the creation of durable and productive rural assets.

Emphasising decentralised governance, the Minister said that planning power under the VB–G RAM G framework rests with Gram Sabhas and Panchayats, ensuring participatory decision-making and locally relevant development. This approach, he added, would help build a prosperous, resilient and self-reliant Rural Bharat while ensuring that development benefits reach the last mile.

Focusing on the education sector, Dr. Majumdar stated that the Act enables a wide range of works aimed at strengthening rural education infrastructure. These include construction and maintenance of classrooms, laboratories, playgrounds, compound walls, toilets and kitchen sheds in government schools, thereby creating safer, more functional and child-friendly learning environments. He also pointed out that improved infrastructure for anganwadi centres, including buildings and sanitation facilities, would reinforce the foundation of early childhood education.

The Minister further noted that the inclusion of rural libraries and training-and-skill development centres under the framework expands learning opportunities beyond formal schooling. Such facilities, he said, would support youth, women and adult learners by providing access to knowledge resources and vocational pathways within villages themselves.

Concluding, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar said that the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 represents a renewed and future-oriented rural employment guarantee. By expanding employment days, institutionalising decentralised planning, strengthening accountability and promoting convergence-driven development, the Act repositions rural employment as a strategic tool for empowerment and inclusive growth, fully aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
