A meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee was held today under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi to review and deliberate on measures aimed at reducing traffic congestion and overcrowding in Shimla city.
During the meeting, the committee discussed the proposed relocation of major commercial hubs, including the Sabzi Mandi at Lower Bazaar, Anaj Mandi, the Timber Market at Lakkar Bazaar, the Mechanical Market at Kachi Ghati and the Transport Area, to suitable alternative locations. The objective of the proposed shift is to ease traffic pressure and improve mobility within the city.
Housing and Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani and Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh were present during the deliberations.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap informed the committee that five potential sites have been identified along the Dhalli four-lane road. He said site inspections would be carried out soon, following which a detailed report would be submitted for further consideration.
The committee also discussed issues related to four parking projects proposed in Shimla as part of the broader decongestion plan.
Former Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar also attended the meeting and shared his suggestions on measures to decongest the city.
