In a significant step toward making Himachal Pradesh a green energy state, the Government of Himachal Pradesh today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Geotropy India Pvt. Ltd. in the presence of CM Sukhu.
The signing ceremony was attended by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Iceland’s Ambassador to India, Benedikt Hoskuldsson. The MoU was executed by Chief Engineer, Directorate of Energy D.P. Gupta, on behalf of the state government, and Tomos Otto Hansson, Chairperson of Iceland-based GEOTROPY ehf.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustainable and renewable energy. He noted that Himachal Pradesh has significant geothermal potential, which, if harnessed, could reduce the state’s dependence on conventional energy sources. Highlighting the major advantage of geothermal energy—its round-the-clock availability—Shukhu directed the company to start exploration work immediately.
He also clarified that the exploration and subsequent development of geothermal energy will not impose any financial burden on the State Government, emphasizing that the initiative is fully aligned with Himachal Pradesh’s vision for a clean, environment-friendly energy future.
