The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched Fire Safety Week from May 4 to 10, 2026, to enhance safety in healthcare facilities across the country.

Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava led a nationwide pledge on “Fire Safety in Health Facilities,” emphasizing the need for regular audits, staff training, and stronger emergency response systems.

The Ministry also unveiled the National Guidelines on Fire and Life Safety in Healthcare Facilities (2026), focusing on risk management, infrastructure, and safety protocols, especially in critical areas like ICUs and operation theatres.

During the week, hospitals nationwide will conduct audits, mock drills, evacuation exercises, and awareness programmes to improve preparedness.

The Centre has urged all states and healthcare institutions to actively implement safety measures and build a more secure healthcare environment.
