A special awareness workshop titled “Ghar Ka Kaam Sabka Kaam” was organised for students at St. Thomas’ School, Shimla, aiming to reshape perceptions around domestic responsibilities and encourage a culture of shared ownership within households.
The session highlighted how everyday language in many Indian homes—such as “help your mother”—often unintentionally reinforces the idea that household work is primarily a woman’s responsibility. Students were encouraged to rethink this mindset and view domestic chores as a collective duty rather than optional assistance.
The initiative, conceptualised by Restless@Magiccircle for Philips as part of its Mother’s Day campaign, seeks to shift the narrative from “helping at home” to “shared responsibility.”
Held at St. Thomas’ School under the guidance of Officiating Principal Sharon Nanda, the workshop included a screening of the campaign film followed by an interactive discussion on invisible labour, gender roles, and the subtle influence of everyday phrases on behaviour and attitudes within families.
Students were further encouraged to take a pledge to actively share household responsibilities, reframing participation in home duties as a personal responsibility rather than an act of help.
The initiative emphasised that meaningful social change begins early in life, and that schools play a crucial role in shaping values around equality and responsibility. By engaging students directly, the programme aimed to foster long-term behavioural awareness rather than symbolic observance.
