As the monsoon season nears, the state administration has intensified its preparedness drive to reduce the impact of rain-induced disasters. Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant today chaired a detailed review meeting with district officials and key departments to assess ground-level readiness and reinforce disaster management systems.

Stressing a proactive and coordinated approach, the Chief Secretary underlined the need for seamless inter-departmental coordination, robust early warning systems, and efficient flood mitigation and emergency response arrangements across vulnerable regions.

He directed departments to ensure sufficient availability of essential supplies such as food grains, ration, and emergency fuel in remote and high-risk areas so that relief is not hampered during adverse weather conditions. He also instructed dam operators to strictly comply with safety protocols and issue timely alerts to downstream populations before any regulated water release.

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department was asked to maintain continuous monitoring of evolving weather conditions and ensure swift coordination of relief and rescue operations wherever required.

During the meeting, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) presented an overview of monsoon projections, recent climatic patterns, and forecasting systems, while the Central Water Commission briefed the participants on flood prediction tools and advance warning mechanisms.

Representatives from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) showcased their preparedness levels, operational readiness, and equipment availability for emergency response during the monsoon period.

Officials from departments including Public Works, Jal Shakti, Home Guards, Civil Defence, and Fire Services also presented their respective preparedness plans and contingency measures.

Earlier, Dr. Pushpender Rana, Director and Special Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management), provided a comprehensive update on the preparatory actions already undertaken by the state government ahead of the monsoon season.
