Governor Kavinder Gupta on Thursday said the 51 Shakti Peeths are not just places of worship but enduring symbols of India’s spiritual heritage, cultural continuity and national unity. He called for scientific research, digital documentation and global promotion of the country’s Shakti tradition.
Addressing the inaugural session of the four-day national seminar ‘Shakti Mimansa: 51 Shakti Peeths – Spiritual Pillars of India’s Heritage’ at Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, the Governor said the Shakti Peeths have played a significant role in preserving India’s civilisational values and strengthening cultural integration over centuries.
Describing Shakti as the eternal force of creation, knowledge, compassion and courage, Gupta said the seminar would help examine the concept of Shakti from historical, philosophical and cultural perspectives. He stressed the need for authentic research into the historical, archaeological and cultural importance of the Shakti Peeths.
The Governor also advocated the use of modern technology for digital documentation and preservation of these sacred sites, saying it is essential to safeguard India’s cultural heritage for future generations.
Highlighting the growing global interest in India’s knowledge traditions, yoga, Ayurveda and spirituality, Gupta said the philosophy of Shakti conveys universal values such as respect for women, harmony with nature and inner strength.
He urged young scholars to undertake research in Sanskrit literature, Shakti traditions, Tantra philosophy and Indian Knowledge Systems, adding that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 offers new opportunities to integrate ancient wisdom with modern academic research.
Expressing confidence that the seminar would contribute to the preservation and global recognition of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage, the Governor congratulated the organisers and wished the event success.
