CM Sukhu has instructed state medical colleges to prioritize research and upgrade diagnostic facilities to enhance patient care across Himachal Pradesh. Presiding over a Health Department review meeting on Saturday, the Chief Minister announced that a dedicated medical research department will first be set up at IGMC Shimla, before being expanded to other state medical institutions.
To eliminate delays in critical care, Sukhu directed hospitals to ensure immediate diagnostic services—including MRI, CT scans, and X-rays—without waiting periods. To streamline pathology services, the state has released ₹75 crore to establish automated labs at IGMC Shimla, Tanda Medical College, and the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties in Chamiyana. Tenders have already been floated for the required machinery, which will enable multiple tests to be conducted simultaneously from a single blood sample.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the government is exploring direct procurement of medicines from manufacturers to ensure quality and availability. He also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to improving working conditions for healthcare personnel, adding that ongoing medical reforms are based directly on feedback from doctors and faculty, whom he plans to visit personally in the coming weeks.
