Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh today announced that Himachal Pradesh is on the verge of receiving central approval for road projects worth ₹3,000 crore under Phase II of PMGSY-IV. The allocation will cover 340 roads spanning 1,659 kilometers, with all state formalities fully completed.
This follows an initial PMGSY-IV clearance of ₹2,300 crore for 290 roads (1,500 km) currently underway. In addition, new bridge projects worth ₹128 crore are expected to get the green light soon, alongside active annual maintenance works valued at ₹800 crore across the state.
Addressing operational challenges, the Minister highlighted a global supply shortage of bitumen impacting road tarring. He announced plans to meet the Union Petroleum Minister to request a special bitumen quota tailored to Himachal’s geographical needs. On rural connectivity, he urged villagers in unlinked areas to cooperate with land gift deeds to fast-track construction.
Reflecting on his recent study tour to Brazil, Vikramaditya Singh stated that modern engineering techniques and urban infrastructure solutions observed abroad would be adapted to local conditions to accelerate sustainable development.
