Shimla’s Police Ground in Bharari echoed with solemn reverence today as the Himachal Pradesh Police observed Police Commemoration Day, paying heartfelt tributes to the brave personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Director General of Police Ashok Tewari led the poignant ceremony, which drew senior officers and personnel from across various units for a ceremonial parade, the reading of the roll of honor, and a reflective two-minute silence.
Dignitaries across the state extended their deep respect, with Governor Kavinder Gupta and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu issuing messages honoring the extraordinary courage of the fallen heroes and the profound sacrifices borne by their families. Reinforcing a vision for a responsive and people-friendly force, the leadership underscored the vital role of police integrity in safeguarding public safety.
Addressing the assembly, DGP Tewari expressed unwavering solidarity with the families of the martyrs, assuring that their welfare, dignity, and well-being remain a top institutional priority. “Behind every name we remember today is a life of courage, a family that has endured an irreparable loss, and a sacrifice that can never truly be repaid,” he stated, vowing that their legacy will continue to inspire the force to uphold the rule of law with absolute dedication.
Observed nationwide every year on October 21, Police Commemoration Day marks the historic sacrifice of ten CRPF personnel ambushed by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959, serving as a solemn reminder of the unwavering valor defining India’s law enforcement services.
