In a landmark verdict for Himachal Pradesh’s financial rights, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state in the long-pending Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) arrears case. CM Sukhu hailed it as a historic triumph for the state’s 75 lakh residents. Under the decision, Himachal Pradesh will receive 60 crore units of electricity annually for the next 20 years, generating an estimated revenue of ₹10,000 crore to ₹20,000 crore.
Even at a baseline tariff of ₹6 per unit, the ruling will bring at least ₹500 crore in additional annual revenue, rising up to ₹1,000 crore if rates reach ₹13–14 per unit. CM Sukhu confirmed that these funds will be used to enhance healthcare, education, road infrastructure, youth employment, and employee financial benefits. Marking the administration’s fourth major legal success after Wildflower Hall, JSW, and Kishau Dam, the state will continue pursuing its rights over the Shanan Power Project and Water Cess to help Himachal become self-reliant and prosperous by 2032.
