As someone once said that education is an imprecise process, a dance, a collaborative experience, hence today the children of St Edwards Phulwari demonstrated how learning in the school has given soul to their universe, wings to their minds, flight to their imagination and life to everything. The Chief Guest for the evening was Director General, National Institute of Audits & Accounts, L V Sudhir Kumar who unfurled the flag and inspected the Guard of Honour with the school Principal, Father John Bosco, Rev Francis Xavier and Vice Principal Rev Fr Naveen Rodriguez.
The Annual Day celebrations began with a Prayer Song by the students, followed by a welcome dance dedicated to the Chief Guest and the parents as Atithi Devo Bhava. It is said that in India guests are equivalent to God, and the abhinandan dance was specially performed to invoke the blessings and praise of the parents. A rich amalgamation of rituals, cultural fiesta, songs, dances, colourful dresses, love and food was seen in the Punjabi wedding act, “Gurpreet Weds Simran”, impeccably performed by the tiny tots from Nursery class. Even parents couldn’t resist foot tapping on hearing the sounds of dhol and boliyan as their children performed stunningly.
A beautiful message was shared by the students of class one through their performance Jannat E-Hind based on the rich, cultural beauty of ‘the Heaven on Earth’, Kashmir, which is now marred by the ongoing terrorism and hostilities. The innocent voices called for eradication of violence, to spread peace and harmony among the people and the act was dedicated to the soldiers. The next programme titled “Bouquet of Gratitude” was presented by the students of Kindergarten Class, who showed how valuable parents are and despite any hardships children can always rely on their parents for guidance, love, assurance and protection in life.
The ancient Japanese martial art techniques were displayed by the junior champions who showcased same basic self defense skills. Kiyahi or the shout forms an integral part of all karate moves as well as helps in concentration of one’s body organ making the attack lethal. The mastery in breaking tiles and bricks was displayed with dexterity by these little champions.
Peace, tranquility and harmony felt through Sufi Dance was brought alive by the Class III students who inspired all with their “Divine Petition”. This was followed by a classic dance performance in two parts by Class V students on “Ganga Avtaran” describing how the holy River Ganges originated on this Earth and the famous Odissi Tandav dance. Children of Class IV soon took over and presented a captivating and colourful Sammi Dance – A Punjabi Love Tale. Almost similar to Gidda, Sammi dance is performed in a circle where the tribal girl or ‘sammi’ waits for her lover, confused whether to dress for him or not, and finally her love is not reciprocated and she dies heartbroken.
The athletic and acrobatic skills were displayed by the students from classes III to XII, as students performed some amazing and awe inspiring feats. The pyramid formation was just spectacular. This was followed by a peacock dance by class II students titled Flamboyant Hues. Our National bird, peacock is an epitome of beauty as its feathers are lined with hues of blue, gold and green, and the sweet tiny dancers on the ground perfectly scored points for winning the hearts of the parents with their enthralling and enticing moves. The dance was choreographed by the school teachers, Amrita and Mamta Zinta.
The Chief Guest, Sudhir Kumar was full of praises and appreciated the children for showcasing such an exuberant show. The hours of practice and hard work put in by children was clearly visible in each and every performance of the students, he said. Principal Bosco too expressed his gratitude and admiration to all his teaching staff and the Coordinator of St Edwards, Manjeet Sood, for making the show a huge success despite rain scare.
Ekta Chaudhary, mother of KG class kid was amazed to see such brilliant performance by the kids, even though her kid was in the Welcome Dance but her favourite were the Gymnatics display. Giri Sharma, father of Kapil and Divgan Shrama was thrilled after seeing the events and commended the teachers on such a wonderful presentation.
A splendid evening ended with the prize distribution!!!
