Srishti Sambhav — A Musical Extravaganza

St Thomas School brings to life a myriad shades with seven hundred students lighting up the stage!

StThomasAnnualFnvt.3.10 (8)The story of the beginning of the world and life has always been the most interesting tale. From the five elements that make up the Earth to the evolution of man, Srishti Sambhav was an all encompassing act put together by the students of St Thomas School. The event which was scripted and directed by Nandini Banerjee and Shuddho Banerjee, the wife and husband duo from Delhi was a visual treat. With apt music and light effects, the musical brought together a record seven hundred children on stage, something not tried before in any annual day.

StThomasAnnualFnvt.3.10 (16)While the welcome of the chief guest, The Most Rev Pradeep Kumar Samantaroy, Moderator, Church of North India and The Bishop of the Diocese of Amritsar along with Rev Ayub Daniel, Finance Officer, Diocese of Amritsar, with the traditional Himachali Nati, after which a soulful Vandana performance followed next.

On day two Dr Purnima Chauhan, Secretary Administrative Reforms, Commissioner Departmental Enquiries HP Secretariat, graced the occasion.

As the school report was presented by School Principal Vidupriya Chakrabarty, she welcomed the guests and enlightened all on the school activities. The school had an outstanding result in X and XII Board examinations and was very active in promoting and contributing towards social causes. The principal emphasised that the aim of the school was to develop children into wholesome personalities and all efforts were aimed in this direction.

StThomasAnnualFnvt.3.10 (27)After the traditional diya lighting and prize distribution, it was time for the musical to unfold. As the story of evolution flowed, the young children had imperative messages from The Panchtantra, The Jataka Tales and stories from different Holy Books that they related through short skits. The grand finale included a Bhangra performance by the boys followed by a symposium of all sStThomasAnnualFnvt.3.10 (49)even hundred participants on stage.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest congratulated the staff for accomplishing the mammoth task of bringing together a huge number of students on stage. He also emphasised on the religious teachings saying that the programme had depicted religion in a way that was the need of today. In a world increasingly struck by violence, the children are the real hope for the future.

Dr Purnima Chauhan, highly impressed with the theme and its execution applauded the efforts of the students and their teachers. She drew a pertinent comparison with Dr A P J Abdul Kalam’s message in the short film 2070 and appealed all to save and conserve the gift of nature. She further mentioned that with messages like the one conveyed through Srishti Sambhav children were leading the way for all mankind to follow.

The two day mega event concluded with each one carrying home memories of a grand show and lessons for future!
