The famous and much awaited annual International Shimla Festival began here today on a unique note, under the able-guidance of Trilok Suryavanshi, Dist Language Officer who organized the Shimla Art Festival for students at Ridge Maidan in Daulat Singh Park, Shimla. Students from different schools all over Shimla participated in the event. Mr Suryavanshi expressed his views on the competition by saying that, “This is first of its kind competition taking place as a part of the International Summer Festival in Shimla. The idea for this event originated from Neeraj Kumar, Additional Dist Magistrate. In this event we have student as well as professional participants in large groups. I was very happy to see the excitement and zeal of students who took part in this event”. The judges for the event were Anjana Bharwaj, Asst Professor of Painting in Govt College, Kotshera; Sudarshan Sharma, Asst Professor, RKMV College and Preetpal Sharma, Commercial Artist, LAC. A total of 105 students participated in the competition.
The competition was held in different groups:
1. Sub-Junior Group consisting of students from classes 2nd to 5th.
2. Junior Group consisted of students from classes 6th to 8th.
3. Senior Group consisted of students from classes 9th to 12th.
4. The Professional Group.
Specific topics were given to group: Sub-Junior Group – My Dreams; Junior Group – Shimla of My Dreams / Heritage of Shimla; and the Senior Group got the topic Social Media and Us / Cultural Heritage.
Saumya, a participant from Chapslee School expressed her ideas by saying that “I have chosen the topic Shimla of My Dreams. I am trying to show green and clean Shimla. Nowadays quite a number of trees are cut down in order to construct buildings, this has taken away a bundle from the beauty of Shimla. I want my Shimla to be Green and Clean always”. Rahul Sharma from the senior group said, “I have chosen Social Media and Us for my painting. Through my painting I am trying to portray the virtual world we are living in. Social media rules the life of youngsters nowadays”.
Another student from Govt Middle School, Mayfield said “I have chosen the Christ Church for my drawing as it is the most beautiful heritage building of Shimla. I have practicing for it for many days and I want my painting to be the best so that I can win the first prize”.
Mr Suryavanshi informed that the winners for the competition in all categories would be announced on 1st June, 2014. The theme of the Shimla Summer Festival – 2014 will be incorporated in mementos and certificates which will be awarded to the winners of the competition.
