75th Independence Day Celebration in St. Edward’s School

To mark the 75th Independence Day celebrations students of St. Edward’s School, Shimla, organised a plethora of events. The diamond/platinum jubilee celebrations of the Independence was presided over by Professor Aman Kumar Sharma as the chief guest who was warmly greeted by the School Principal Reverend Father Anil Sequeria and Reverend Father Edward.

India gained its Independence on 15th August 1947, and it is celebrated as the Independence day since then. This year the nation is celebrating its 75th anniversary of Independence. Professor Aman Kumar Sharma is an alumnus of St. Edward’s School, he completed his schooling in 1987. In the academic journey he was awarded Doctorate in Computer Science from Himachal Pradesh University with a specialisation in software engineering. Dr. Aman Kumar Sharma is currently working as a Professor in the Computer Science Department of HPU.

The celebrations began by shedding light on the importance of Independence Day. This was followed by a tranquilizing meditation and prayer song by the school choir. The Chief Guest hoisted the tricolour and the school rose for the national anthem. The festivities continued as the School Captain, Armaan Mahajan addressed all on the importance of this auspicious day, lighting a patriotic fervour among everyone present. The talented and melodious students of our school presented various musical performances and a student recited a beautiful poem on the occasion. The festivities continued as the boys showed their gracious and enthusiastic  dance moves. The boys from the dramatics club performed a play highlighting the freedom struggle.

Professor Sharma addressed the school as he shared his views on the importance of freedom and motivated the students with his words of wisdom. The School Reporter proposed a vote of thanks and ended on a note, “Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and dignity, today we live in a free country and have the right to do what we want freely but we must never forget the brave freedom fighters and unsung gallants who sacrificed their lives to give us this freedom.” The Amrit Mahotsav celebration was a great success and must have inspired everyone to do something for this country that we are so proud of.
