DC Shimla Reviews Food Distribution Scheme, Emphasizes Transparency In Fair Price Shop Allocation

Today, the Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, Aditya Negi, held a meeting with the District Level Targeted Public Distribution System Committee in his office. He shared that under the Chief Minister’s Grihini Suvidha Yojana, 19,855 connections were distributed to eligible families, and 15,595 beneficiaries were provided with a free refill cylinder under this scheme in the district.

He discussed in detail the selection process of eligible beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act 2013 and gave necessary directions to make this scheme more effective so that marginalized sections of society can benefit from it. He also asked for detailed reports on inspections conducted by departmental inspectors and thoroughly discussed the findings.

The Deputy Commissioner also discussed the process of opening new fair price shops and emphasized on transparency in allocating shops at appropriate prices to ensure that targeted sections of society can benefit from them. Aditya Negi has called for a review of the distribution of LP gas, diesel, petrol, and kerosene to improve the system. Prior to this, a meeting was chaired by the district food supply controller, Purna Chand Thakur, who shed light on the various activities of the department.

Following this, the District level Vigilance Committee meeting was held, and the official stated that under the National Food Security Act 2013, a population of 3,26,142 in rural areas and 8,796 in urban areas of the district had been selected. Under this series, the Shimla Municipal Corporation has selected a population of 46,256 in the urban area, and in the Mashobra block of rural areas, 28,252, in Jubbal 9,441, in Rampur 5,628, and in Chauhara 935. On this occasion, Yashwant Chauhan, the project officer of DRDA, and officials and employees of the Food Supply Department were present.
