Bishop Cotton School Boys to Embark on a 10-day Cultural Tour of the UK

Thirty-four boys from Bishop Cotton School (BCS) in Shimla are eagerly preparing for their upcoming cultural tour of the United Kingdom. Starting from next week, on 19th June 2023, the group of students, accompanied by staff members, will embark on an enriching journey across various destinations in the UK.

Old Cottonian and Historian Raaja Bhasin to Accompany the Boys as a Guide

Renowned historian, author, and journalist Raaja Bhasin, known for his expertise on the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh and Shimla, will be joining the BCS boys as their guide and local historian during their tour. His extensive knowledge and captivating talks will engage British students with the history of BCS and Shimla, including the historic ties between BCS and prestigious UK schools.

Visits to Historic Schools and Landmarks Enhance Cultural Exchange (Bishop Cotton School)

The BCS boys will have the opportunity to visit two prestigious UK schools, Rugby and Marlborough College, which have historical connections with BCS. Bishop Cotton himself taught at these schools before coming to India. These visits will deepen the cultural exchange between the schools and foster a sense of shared heritage.

Additionally, the boys will explore famous landmarks in the UK, including Shakespeare’s birthplace and the renowned Globe Theatre in London. Their itinerary also includes visits to the historic cities of Bath and Bristol, as well as iconic landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament and Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Oxford University Talk Provides Insight into Admission Process

During their tour, the BCS boys will have the privilege of attending a talk in Oxford University, providing them with valuable insights into the admission process and the opportunity to learn from one of the world’s most prestigious educational institutions.

Vibrant Indian Performances Highlight ‘Incredible India’

The BCS boys are excited to showcase their Indian heritage through captivating performances. They will present a street play in traditional Indian style, incorporating fascinating facts and figures about “Incredible India” throughout history, both ancient and modern. In addition, the boys will enchant their hosts with traditional and modern Indian dances, including Bollywood, Himachal, and Rajasthan styles.

Director Simon Weale Excited to Showcase UK to BCS Boys

BCS Director Simon Weale, an alumnus of Oxford University, expresses his anticipation and enthusiasm for showing the BCS boys the best that the UK has to offer. With his extensive knowledge and personal experience, Weale is determined to make the tour a memorable and enriching experience for the boys.
