The latest production of Sankalp Rangmandal titled The Doll, deals with the complex relationship between a man and an AI doll, and is set to be staged at Gaiety Theatre on July 19 and 20, in association with the Department of Language, Art & Culture. Relationships have never been easy. What baffled a man about a woman thousands of years ago, still baffles him. Women have been complaining about few traits of men for ages now. The world has seen phenomenal growth in terms of development in science and technology, biology and medicine but no technology can solve the complex relationship between a man and a woman.
Based on the famous play by Croatian writer Miro Gavran, The Doll, looks into the psyche of these two very important components of the nature. The theme of the play is totally different from what audiences would have witnessed till now.
Talking about the play, Kedar Thakur, director of the play shares, “The learning process during the making of this play has been tremendously outstanding. For any kind of drama, we need to have uninterrupted trust and faith in the team, especially the actors. My team was very cool throughout the process. For this play, I have worked with two main actors. Rupesh Bhimta, who is working as a theatre artist since 1996 and is an experienced artist and Yashvi Bhardwaj who would be making her debut in theatre with this challenging role. So far, both have given their best with the portrayal of these characters, and I am sure the audience will like their chemistry. The adaptation has been done by Saurabh Srivastava.”
Thakur further added, “I want to take it to a larger audience, and wish to perform this play on various stages throughout the country. I think the subject matter is very novel. My ultimate objective is to represent Himachal’s Theatre on the National and International platforms and gain respect and honour for my beautiful State.”
