In Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the Congress ideology as the foundation of a progressive India, rooted in the vision of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He praised the Congress’s commitment to national interest and development, which has guided India’s growth.

During his visit to the Maharashtra Congress office, the Chief Minister humorously referenced a samosa offered by Congress leader Pawan Khera, quipping whether politics here was about snacks or more substantial issues like development and women’s empowerment. He asserted, “Truth always confronts falsehood, but in the end, it is truth that prevails.”

‘Operation Lotus’ and Political Challenges

Chief Minister Sukhu drew parallels between the political landscapes in Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh, pointing to the BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ strategy. He stated that BJP had attempted similar tactics during the Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal, but their efforts were met with resistance. Despite opposition and alleged negative propaganda, the Congress government was elected with a majority, securing 40 seats in the state assembly. He urged Maharashtra voters to consider whether democracy is upheld or undermined by attempts to destabilize elected governments.

Commitment to Self-Reliance and Prosperity

Highlighting his vision, Chief Minister Sukhu reaffirmed Congress’s aim to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027 and a leading state by 2032. He outlined policy reforms to ensure that the government’s initiatives reach every citizen, focusing on development and prosperity for all.

Key Achievements of the Congress Government in Himachal Pradesh

In less than two years, the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has delivered on five key promises:

  1. Old Pension Scheme: Reinstated in the first cabinet meeting for government employees.
  2. English Medium Education: Introduced from Class 1 in government schools.
  3. Monthly Pension for Women: Providing Rs. 1,500 to women aged 18 and above.
  4. Support for Orphans and Single Parents: Himachal is the first state to guarantee support for orphans up to age 27, including educational support for children of widows and single mothers.
  5. Minimum Support Price for Milk: Himachal has set minimum support prices for milk, increasing rates from Rs. 32 to Rs. 45 per liter for cow’s milk and from Rs. 47 to Rs. 55 for buffalo’s milk.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that Congress remains dedicated to supporting the underprivileged, upholding its moral commitment to inclusive growth.
