In a thrilling finish Team from Vivek High School, Chandigarh, finally bagged the winning trophy for category A-B (13-17) years by two strokes, thus beating St John High School during the 4th Albatross All India Inter School Golf Championship held on 27-28th August, 2014 at the ITC Classics Gurgaon. Aadil Bedi (13) of Class 8 and Adilbir Singh (15) of Class 10 held their nerves tight at closing holes as they beat Karandeep Kochar (15) and Rohan Kathuria (17), with a final two day team score of 304 and 306 respectively.
Taking advantage of home course, team Modern School Vasant Vihar, Delhi comprising of Azad Sandhu and Arjun Raj Bahadur played a few great golfing shots and posted 150 points on the board after day one, and with a score of 154, St. John High School was placed at number two position, whereas Vivek High School team was in third position with score a 157. As the conditions were tough with high speed greens, Aadil and Adilbir scored 78 and 79 respectively with 2 birdies each. With a second consecutive win this year, while partnering with Vasundara Thiara in 2013, Aadil won the trophy for the school again with his new team mate.
On the start of second day play, trailing by 7 strokes, with windy overcast weather and mild thunderstorm at ITC Classic, both players played super golf shots until the last putt of 18 hole. Aadil fired 4 birdies and scored 73 whereas Adilbir score 74 with 2 birdies and surprised everybody with score of 304, to register a 2 stroke win over St John High School. Karandeep played a steady game of 75, 71 whereas his partner Rohan Kathuria played 79, 83 with total score of 306. Modern High School Delhi had to be satisfied with a third place with the score of 311.
In the individual Category C Girls, Vasundara Thiara of Vivek High School, registered an easy victory with scores of 75, 83 (158) as she could not field a team in the C-D Category due to non-availability of another student from the school. Karandeep registered his win with scores of 75, 71 (146). Karan shot 2 birdies on second day and shot under par score 71 in A Category. Aadil finished 2nd Runner up with score 78, 73 (151) in B Category. Hunar Mittal from Panchkula finished runner up with two day score of 88, 89 (177) in Category D Girls. Manjot Singh of Category D finished runner up too with score of 81, 83 (164).
Tricity Golf Society, acknowledged and applauded the effort of young golfers and invited all the winning golf players at function to be held in end September, in which ace golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar will preside over as the Chief Guest. The society further announced that they are in the process of raising funds to start a scholarship scheme for caddy players and IGU meritorious players separately apart from hosting national level matches between “Chandigarh vs Rest of India”.
