The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), an autonomous body under the Union Health Ministry, has achieved a historic milestone by being officially recognized by Guinness World Records for the “Most viewers of an Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare lesson live stream on YouTube.”

The record was set during a nationwide online training programme on AI in Healthcare, designed for registered medical practitioners across India. The session reached a peak concurrent viewership of 17,999, marking an unprecedented level of engagement in digital medical education.

The initiative was conceptualized by Dr. Abhijat Sheth, President of NBEMS and Chairman of NMC, with the aim of equipping doctors with foundational and applied knowledge of artificial intelligence. The programme consists of 20 modules delivered over six months by faculty from premier institutions including Harvard University, IIM Lucknow, and IISc Bengaluru, and participation is completely free for doctors.

The programme was planned and executed by Dr. Rakesh Sharma (Governing Body Member, NBEMS), Dr. AVS Suresh from Hyderabad, and the NBEMS team, in collaboration with national and international AI experts. The record was officially verified by Swapnil Dangarikar, appointed judge from Guinness World Records.

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Sheth credited the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring digital innovation and responsible adoption of AI in public service. He also expressed gratitude to Union Health MinisterJ P Nadda, MOHFW officers, faculty members, academic partners, and participating doctors for their contribution.

“This recognition is more than a record; it reflects India’s leadership in digital medical education and underscores NBEMS’ commitment to competency-based learning,” Dr. Sheth said. He added that the Board will continue initiatives to enhance healthcare quality and prepare future-ready healthcare leaders capable of responsibly using emerging technologies.

The programme witnessed unprecedented participation from doctors across government and private institutions nationwide, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm among medical professionals for AI in healthcare.
