Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will launch Bharat Taxi, India’s first cooperative-based ride-hailing platform, on 5th February 2026 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Conceptualized under the vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ and ‘Sarathi Hi Malik’, Bharat Taxi aims to empower drivers—referred to as Sarathis—by making them owners and stakeholders, providing an inclusive, citizen-centric mobility solution while breaking free from conventional aggregator-based models.
Since its inception on 6th June 2025, Bharat Taxi has attracted over four lakh drivers and more than ten lakh registered users, completing over 10,000 rides daily. The platform operates on a zero-commission, surge-free pricing model, directly distributing profits to drivers. It also prioritizes driver welfare, offering personal accident and family health insurance, retirement savings, and dedicated support centers in Delhi.
In a step toward women’s empowerment, the platform’s “Sarathi Didi” and “Bike Didi” initiatives have encouraged over 150 women drivers to join, ensuring safer and inclusive mobility. During the launch, top-performing Sarathis will be felicitated with share certificates, personal accident cover, and family health insurance. Additionally, nine MoUs with public and private stakeholders will be signed to strengthen operational integration, digital empowerment, and safety measures.
Bharat Taxi, registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, aspires to expand nationwide over the next two years, building a sustainable, cooperative-driven mobility ecosystem aligned with digital public infrastructure and enhanced social security for drivers. Over 1,200 Sarathis from across India are expected to attend the launch, reflecting the platform’s growing national reach and acceptance.
