SPCA Shimla or Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Shimla is a quasi governmental organization for prevention of animal cruelty. DC Shimla is the Chairman of the Society and I am the President. This is to bring to your kind notice that a mass anti-rabies vaccination was conducted on 9th of February, 2023 and more anti-rabies vaccinations will be done in the weeks to come. I request you to help us in making people aware about this small effort to ensure the safety of the community dogs as well as the community. I will give a brief introduction about Rabies, followed by details of the vaccination drive:

Rabies is a deadly but preventable viral disease that affects both, wild and domesticated mammals and spreads by the bite of an infected animal. An inter-sectoral approach is essential for its control and prevention. A mass anti-rabies vaccination drive for street dogs was done on the 9th of February as a collaborative effort between the Department of Animal Husbandry, Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Shimla, Municipal Corporation Shimla and NGO- Humane People, Rampur. In a first of its kind vaccination drive, 103 dogs were successfully vaccinated against rabies in areas of Rajhana, Nehra, Jhanjidi, Chhota Shimla, New Shimla, Mehli and Malyana in a single day. The drive was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Anil Sharma, Veterinary Polyclinic Rampur with the help of Dr. Parinita Prashar, Mr. Rajinder Pal, Mr. Ajay Sharma & Mr. Roop Chand from veterinary hospital Panthghati, Dr. Vibhuti Sharda, Mr. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Cyrus Mohan from SPCA Shimla, Mr. Rajat Negi and Ms. Deepali Mehta from Humane People and Dr. Navin Jothra, Dr. Sandeep Singh Chaudhary and Dr. Aman Malpotra from Veterinary University Palampur. Local volunteers and dog feeders from these areas helped in the vaccination drive, to keep their community dogs as well as their community safe. Anti-rabies vaccination will be done in other areas too in a planned and systematic manner in the coming weeks as well in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry and MC Shimla. SPCA Shimla can be contacted on its social media handles (SPCA, Shimla on Instagram and Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Shimla on Facebook) if any resident would like to get their community dogs vaccinated against rabies or would like to help in this drive.
